Ethical Localization for
Tabletop & Board Games
After years of localizing video games for players around the world, we’re bringing that same expertise to tabletop and board games.
The medium may be different, but the goal remains the same: helping designers, publishers, and distributors reach new audiences without losing what makes their games special. From rulebooks and cards to packaging and marketing materials, we apply the same quality-first approach we’ve built our reputation on.
Our Approach
To bring the same quality standards to physical games, we’ve paired our localization specialists with experienced DTP and design professionals who understand the unique challenges of multilingual tabletop publishing.
Our translators, engineers, and DTP specialists work as a single team from the start. Together, they adapt rulebooks, cards, packaging, player aids, and other game components to ensure every version remains clear, functional, and faithful to the original design across languages and writing systems.
Our Step-by-Step Localization Process
Our workflow for physical games consists of five steps:
CONSULTING
We kick off every project with a round of consulting sessions. During these sessions, we review all your materials, design a bespoke localization workflow that fits your game’s specific needs, and confirm that every element is in place for a flawless localization experience, including text expansion risks, and multilingual layout considerations.
TRANSLATION
Our experts work to preserve the voice, tone, humor, and intent of the original while keeping cultural aspects relevant in the target language. Depending on your project’s size and scope, we assign one or more translators per language to meet the expected deadlines.
Additionally, we run automated QA checks to verify variables, character limits, terminology, formatting, and other technical elements before content reaches the DTP stage.
PROOFREADING
Every translation is reviewed by a second specialist. Working closely with the translator, the reviewer checks for accuracy, consistency, flow, readability, and anything that could be improved before moving to graphics tasks. Equally important is the collaborative process behind that review: discussing linguistic challenges, brainstorming creative choices, and reaching shared solutions that strengthen the final localization.
Desktop Publishing (DTP)
Our design team ensures that all files are print-ready and that every localized component looks and functions exactly as it should.
Post-DTP Revision
Before final approval, each language undergoes one last review to ensure the localized content and visual presentation are ready for print.
Why Choose Us
Our background in video game localization provides us with the same professional tools and workflows used on some of the industry’s most demanding projects.
Shared glossaries, translation memories, and automated QA checks help us maintain terminology consistency, formatting accuracy, and linguistic coherence across every language. Combined with our collaborative workflow between translators, reviewers, and DTP specialists, these processes allow us to catch issues early and keep projects running smoothly.
To reinforce quality at every step, we perform dedicated revision passes both before and after DTP, ensuring that the final product remains faithful to the original in both presentation and language.
